The situation in Tunisia is critical. The problem is the reading -inconsistent with the text and the spirit of the Constitution- that the President of the Republic has been doing for months now. His latest decisions do not at all respect the article of the Constitution relating to exceptional circumstances (Art. 80), in particular the condition of consulting the Constitutional Court and the obligation to keep Parliament in permanent session (it decided the contrary by suspending its work and its powers). So if it is not an extreme violation of legality (coup d’état) how to qualify it otherwise?
The FACM calls for an urgent return to normality, legality and the application of the Constitution within the framework of the commitment to the democratic, citizen and popular process initiated in 2011.
